The Punchbowl

Thursday: 4th pub of the evening.

This pub was so unremarkable one of our reviewers can remember nothing about this pub and those who do believe it only worthy of 17 syllables:

Memory wiping:
The punchbowl is a shit-hole,
Notable for jack.

The Royal Oak

Thursday: 3rd pub of the evening.

Excellent fire. Taxidermy heads of cow, stag and jockey.
Sofas. Really good wallpaper, dark wood - visually satisfying.
Nostalgic 1950's primary school urinals
Music - nice mix of funk - and not too loud.
Teenage barman. Early last orders.
Had a feeling of 'goodness' about it.

Very highly rated.

The Golden Slipper

Thursday: 2nd pub of the night.

Wide selection of drinks, but VERY expensive, especially the gin - came with good stirrer, but there was an offer of an skinny tonic. Stick to BEER, and if you take that as a life philosophy you won't go far wrong.
One of the tables used to be a sewing machine and that was its most interesting characteristic.
Man behind the bar a little too starey and he told us to "come back soon" in a very pointed way.
Has a 'Roy Castle Clean Air Award', apparently so all is forgiven ¬_¬
Not much of a warm and welcoming atmosphere although the air was clean. Almost completely empty and the old men were sorely missed.
Not spectacular, frankly. The word banal springs to mind.

The Red Lion

Thursday: 1st pub of the night.

Had a burning fire along with secretive compartments, but CCTV watching us all the time which makes us feel unsafe and our identities may no longer be secret as a result.
Ye Olde building, with beams and the like - but not entirely genuine-feeling Ye Olde decor.
Further spoiled by low quality music and Fosters.
Atmosphere warm and buoyant. Generally pretty good.
